Ottawa!!

Here is a packing checklist if you would like to use to help with packing.

Ottawa Trip Checklist

Regular school clothes for 3 days (school dress code applies)
Appropriate attire for parliament buildings
Rainwear / small umbrella

- water bottle

Jacket and/or sweater

Wristwatch or phone if possible (not absolutely necessary)
Comfortable shoes (will be doing lots of walking!)
Medications if needed
Camera
Quiet bus activities (handheld devices, books, etc.)
DVDs for group to view on bus if desired (appropriate material please)
Healthy snacks
Spending money, including money for dinner on trip home
Packed lunch for trip down
Luggage – one small to medium sized suitcase / bag with identification
Backpack for day trips
Responsible, cooperative and safe behaviour

Day One - Tuesday, May 22, 2018
7:00 AM Hammond Transportation motor coach
Arrival at your school of a washroom equipped,
climate controlled highway motor coach. Load
your luggage and prepare for departure.

7:30 AM Board your motor coach and depart. En route your
Tour Leader will get to know the students on a first
name basis and lead discussions. Appropriate rest
and meal stops will be made en route.
Take Highway #407 to and from your destination.
12:30 PM Guided Tour of Fort Henry
On a guided tour of Old Fort Henry, students are
taken back in time in this 19th century British fort
to learn about the lifestyle of a 19th century
British soldier. The origins of British North
America will be explored.

3:00 PM Monument Tour on Parliament Hill
Enjoy a tour of the Monuments on the grounds of
Parliament Hill, conducted by your tour leader.

the Parliament Buildings are historical monuments,

NOTE: Tours cancelled within 14 days will be
subject to a $100 cancellation fee, which will be
invoiced to the school. SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Prior to entering the Centre Block, every visitor
must go through security. Line up for your security
screening 15 - 20 minutes prior to your
reservation, maximum 35 people per tour. Should
the House of Commons and/or Senate be sitting
during your visit, your tour will be restricted to the
main foyer.

Lunch on your own at the Rideau Centre. With
more than a dozen places to eat, the Rideau

the students may be permitted some time to
explore the mall.

2:00 PM Guided Tour at the Supreme Court of Canada
The Supreme Court of Canada has been Canada's
highest court of appeal since 1949. This tour will
familiarize you with the Canadian judicial system
and how the decisions made by the Supreme Court
Justices affect all Canadians. NOTE: The mock
trial is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.

2:45 PM The Byward Market
Explore one of Canada's oldest and largest public
markets. The legendary builder of the Rideau
Canal, Lieutenant Colonel John By, laid out the
plan for the Market. Within its streets, you will find
museums, cafés, specialty food shops, boutiques,
restaurants and more.

4:30 PM Nepean Point
Visit Nepean Point and experience the best view of
Ottawa. Also, take the opportunity to review the
history of Canada's Capital Region. NOTE: This is
an excellent place for a group photograph.

6:30 PM Fajita dinner Lone Star (chicken & beef) - Byward
Market
MENU: Lone Star's famous chips and salsa, fries,

which contains paintings and sculptures from
around the world. Works by Picasso, Van Gogh,
Warhol, and the Group of Seven are some of the
thousands displayed for everyone to enjoy. NOTE:
The tour is one hour in duration. Afterwards,
group will have time to explore the Museum and
Gift Shop.
